Designed by Mark Mungeam (1998) and later refined by Jack Nicklaus Design (2016), Owl's Nest sits in the White Mountains along the Pemigewasset River. The course plays in three distinct sections: links-style holes around the clubhouse, water-flanked holes around a four-acre spring-fed pond, and — the showstopper — six holes atop Sunset Hill with dramatic elevation changes and panoramic mountain views. Expect OB on several holes and bentgrass greens running fast.

Course Notes & Playing Tips

Hole 1 · Par 4 · 400 yds
Driver may not be the play — OB lurks on both sides. Aim down the right for the best angle into this two-tiered green. A front pin can yield pars; a back pin position is much harder.
Hole 2 · Par 4 · 433 yds
Massively downhill dogleg right. You can see the pond and waste area below from the tee. One of the signature holes on the front nine.
Hole 3 · Par 4 · 441 yds · #1 HCP
The toughest hole. Don't flirt with the two deep fairway bunkers. A mid-to-long iron into a shallow green makes this punishing even with a good drive.
Hole 4 · Par 5 · 542 yds
Best approach angle is from the left to minimize the water hazard right. Only the longest hitters can carry the deep greenside bunkers to a small green.
Hole 7 · Par 3 · 213 yds
Long par 3 — trust the distance and make a full swing. Shots that land short stop dead. Back and middle pin positions play significantly harder.
Hole 9 · Par 5 · 541 yds
Sharp dogleg right. Hit a towering fade but beware hidden bunkers. Favor the left on your approach — it can funnel onto the green. OB on both sides of a narrow fairway.
Hole 13 · Par 5 · 521 yds
Uphill par 5 on Sunset Hill. OB and homes are uncomfortably close. A feature hole on the back despite the quirky elevation changes.
Hole 16 · Par 4 · 473 yds
The most dramatic hole — a bunkerless, all-downhill par 4 that can play 300+ yards off the tee with a good hit and run. Blast away.
Sunset Hill (Holes 13–18)
The final six holes feature dramatic elevation changes and panoramic White Mountain views. Wind is a real factor — club up into headwinds off the hilltop tees.

Originally opened in 1948 as Jack O'Lantern Resort, this Bob Keating-designed layout is one of the oldest courses in the White Mountains. Set along the Pemigewasset River, several holes run alongside the water and a historic covered bridge. Tight, tree-lined fairways squeezed between the river and the old Boston & Maine railroad tracks — stray shots go OB fast. The new ownership has been actively restoring the layout to its former character. A charming, old-school New England track that plays friendlier than Owl's Nest.

Course Notes & Playing Tips

Hole 3 · Par 4 · 415 yds · #1 HCP
The toughest hole on the course. Tight and demanding — accuracy off the tee is essential. The rough here plays very long.
Hole 6 · Par 4 · 424 yds
Longest par 4 on the front. The railroad tracks lurk right — many "fores!" get shouted on busy days. Aim left of center off the tee.
Hole 11 · Par 4 · 400 yds · #3 HCP
One of the tougher driving holes on the back nine. The Pemi River runs alongside and comes aggressively into play on wayward shots.
Hole 13 · Par 5 · 525 yds
The only par 5 on the back nine. A reachable three-shotter with a good drive — the most scoreable hole on the back side.
Hole 17 · Par 4 · 445 yds · #2 HCP
The longest par 4 and second-toughest hole. Uphill with a narrow landing zone. Take more club than you think on your approach.
Hole 18 · Par 5 · 525 yds
Finishing hole runs back toward the clubhouse. A solid drive can set up a birdie opportunity — a fun closer with the covered bridge in view.
The Railroad Tracks
Several holes run parallel to the old Boston & Maine rail line. Shots flying over the tracks are common — call "fore!" early and expect bounce-backs into play.
The Pemigewasset River
The Pemi runs along multiple holes. A number of greens sit near or alongside the water — beautiful but unforgiving for offline approaches.
